Most of the items in this website are concerned with my NEC students
and carry information for them.
The picture above is the view from my study window looking at the
River Tamar which forms the border between Corwall and Devon, You
can see the two bridges, the modern road bridge and the railway bridge
built by Brunel. The former is an amazing feat of engineering, built
over 150 tears ago to carry the Great Western railway to Cornwall.
The road bridge is only about 50 years old but was modified a few
years ago by the addition of two cantelevers either side. The western
one is a footpath and the eastern one is for traffic from Saltash.
Recently we have a Tag system to pass through the toll gates. This
consisits of a transmitter on the car which open the barrier and,
of course, deducts 50p from your account.
As you can see it is a great place for boating, races being held
several evenings a week in the season.
